Ethel Louise Trehern 12/14/21-5/15/20

My grandma passed away Friday night at 7pm. She prayed for me & thanked God for my gift of writing in her final prayer. The following morning I was asked to write something for her service. This is what I wrote that day… IMG_0448

Ethel Louise:

Those who knew her

called her Wese

A woman of great character

Missions had her heart

She witnessed to an alcoholic

& gave a minister his start

She was thirteen at the time

& from there her faith just grew

She taught classes at the same church

where she played piano too

She raised a family filled with the love

of her Father up above

She prayed to Him from here on Earth

so that others may know their worth

Cooking was her hobby

She made recipes everyone knew

Sweet rolls with pink icing

had people lined up before she was through

Invited to the National Pillsbury Cook-off

in Washington D.C.

Her lemon supreme cake was chosen

& a brand new kitchen she received

Sharp as a tack ’til her last breath

She was able bodied & giving

She loved doing things for others

That made her life worth living

Her family was her pride & joy

Her heavenly Father the Head of House

She resides in His kingdom now

making up the years lost with her spouse

A commendable woman

for ninety-eight & a half years

Memories will be joyous

though at this time we shed tears

She leaves behind a legacy

Some massive shoes to fill

I hope when she looks down

That pride is what she feels

6/16/19 The Love We Deserve

As I listened to a sermon today on the importance of Christ-like relationships I became excited, while also frustrated. The sermon was about the importance of wives submitting to their husbands, whom are in turn intended to love their wives as Christ loved the church. As usual, religion aside this sermon held a lot of great advice for couples.

The lesson was that women are called to submit in a such a way that they are not presenting barriers to their husbands to lead the household in a Godly manner. They should love their husbands in a way that makes the husband want to be better for them. Husbands in return are meant to love their wives as Christ loved the church. With “sacrificial, purifying, caring, & unbreakable love.” I won’t dive into the breakdown of those, just know that men have a very important, yet extremely difficult task of honoring their wives & leading them in the right direction. Husbands were not intended to take advantage of the wife’s submission, rather use it as inspiration to treat her with this incredible love.

As the message went on single women were called to be patient. Not to submit to just any man who walked into their lives, but rather to wait for the one who would earn their submission & would treat them with the respect they deserve in return. This sounded so empowering! Women have the right to choose. If we all actually did this, held out for this kind of loving connection, how different our relationships would be.

With this power in mind I began to question, why is it this sounds so enticing, but I have such a difficult time being patient? The answer is simple, & a quote from The Perks of Being a Wallflower, “We accept the love we think we deserve.” Until we learn to love ourselves enough to truly believe we deserve to be treated right, we will not be willing to wait patiently. It will be a constant battle to avoid or cut-off those who misuse & abuse us. Therefore, self-love is once again the focus of a stable relationship foundation. Until you can learn to love yourself, you cannot expect someone to love you in a way that you can not. Until you can love yourself, you can not submit yourself to that person properly. As we fill our own cup with self-love, we have more to offer others.

Women are called to submit, which requires a high level of trust. That trust cannot be offered up to just anyone. Save it for someone who will do right by you, someone who appreciates all that you offer & wants to honor your submission. Men, be trustworthy. Earn your woman’s submission by treating her with respect & leading your household in an honorable manner. ❤

Self Published… FINALLY

I finally did it! I typed, formatted, & (self) published my first book. A collection of my poetry from the last 10-15 years or so. I am more proud of some works than others, however, it is all a part of who I am. You can now download an ebook version or a hardcopy by following the link below. I apologize for some of the formatting being off. It was my first time doing this & I was so excited to complete the project I probably didn’t focus on that as much as I should have… Please check it out, buy it, share it… Let’s get the word out! I’ll be starting on my next book soon. It will be focused on the power of positive thinking. ❤

Fears vs Dreams

fullsizeoutput_388

Both my fears & my dreams keep me alive

I’m curious ‘bout the outcome so I fight to survive

My nerves are crippling

As I fear I will fail

So I choose to feel nothing

Stuff my goals behind a veil

But choosing not to feel

Means failing to live

So I relinquish my pride

& I beg life to give

The will to sacrifice is a growing desire

As grasping for my dreams kindles my fire

Ultimatums were made & now I must decide

If I will choose the path that puts him at my side

Another candle placed on the cake

A year comprised of many mistakes

Perhaps 28 holds improvement in store

Before I’ve seen the sun from every angle once more

A Family of Strangers

A family of strangers

is a gathering of friends

Who met once upon a time

& remained bonded ’til the end

From each far reaching corner

of this spherical Earth

Accumulating like magnets

to bask in each others worth

Swimming across oceans

Climbing mountain peaks

Crossing legal borders

To love endlessly

Bonding over campfires

Listening to tunes

Even playing with light-up balloons

Sharing our souls

Good vibes spread throughout

Selflessness offered up

Joyous praises we shout

Developing crushes

We seek only to hide

Because fear of rejection

Is detrimental to our pride

We’re incapable of accepting

the love that we deserve

Because too many times

we’ve been kicked to the curb

We show affection

to those who aren’t us

Yet we wonder how

their love we can trust

If we can’t love ourselves

How can others return

They can’t reciprocate

What we continue to burn

Feelings cause pain

when you don’t believe

That love is there

for you to receive

You circle back to homies

Your sisters & brothers

To forget about emotions

& not let them smother

Good Vibe Tribe (9/6/17)

Family is there through thick & thin
They aren’t afraid to tell you when
You’re a pain in the ass, but you don’t realize
So take their advice, don’t agonize

They’ll let you know what you did wrong
So that your bond can remain strong
They won’t push you away
Let them say what they say
They won’t disown
You’ll still have a home

When people love you
They’ll tell you what’s up
They won’t try to break
Your friendship up

Take it to heart
Hear what they say
They still love you anyways

When they push you to be better
Don’t just pull away
That’s how you end up alone
& that way you’ll stay

When you’re searching for a family
You have to let them in
Trust that their intentions
Are to better you within

It’s time to stop moving
Stop shuffling your life
It’s time to settle down
& quit focusing on strife

For my Niece/Nephew

As I stare into your eyes
Before they have decided what color to be
You’re tiny & innocent
While you’re gazing up at me

I cannot wait
To watch you grow
So as time passes
I’ll beg it to slow

Before words you speak
I’ll kiss you on the cheek
Your tiny hand holding mine
The feeling is so divine

I love you now
I’ll hold you forever
You’ll wonder how
I’ll let go of you never

You can’t hold up your head
All you do is lay in bed
Counting sheep is not a thing
But you sure love toys that sing

Your room is full of giraffes
Unawares, you do arts & crafts
Fingers & toes covered in paint
To make gifts for us to claim

You’ll never grow old
You’ll always be younger than me
So you will always be told
How much you mean to me

Your skin like crushed velvet
Your hair fine peach fuzz
& when you need something
You make a big fuss

Swaddled in cashmere
With a cap to keep you warm
When you cry like a kitten
All the adults start to swarm

Live life to it’s fullest
Don’t die old & boring
Be the best you can be
Like an Eagle keep soaring

One boy & one girl
One silver, one gold
Take care of each other
Don’t try to fit the mould

Be kind, openhearted
Don’t judge like the rest
Befriend everyone
& put love to the test

Be patient, be caring
Be strong, & be good
Be obedient & sharing
Like you wish others would

Kisses & cuddles
& hugs everyday
No matter from where
Love always, ~AK

Memaw

I gave my mother a copy of the adoption poem I wrote & my Memaw asked for one as well. But, I decided to write her something more personal instead 🙂

Memaws are smart

Memaws are kind

Memaws are fun

I’m so glad I have mine

Memaws make vegetable soup

They fill it with okra

They relax at home

& watch shows like Oprah

Memaws make homemade fudge

& mix pecans in half

But they leave half plain

Because I don’t like that riffraff

They take care of puppies,

Bunnies & doves alike

They help raise baby animals

And ride skinny wheeled bikes

Memaws keep secrets

They keep mothers in line

They take lemons in their water

They grow citrus, but not limes

Memaws go with Papaws

Who pretends he’s Moss Back

He scares kids in the pool

When the sky outside is black

Memaws are moms extended

They make kids follow rules

But, they feed us cookie dough

& that is pretty splendid

Memaws lay on rafts

So they don’t get their hair wet

But kids flip them over

& they get a whoopin’ threat

Memaws don’t judge so much

They often take your side

But sometimes they disagree

& they do so with pride

Memaws are loving creatures

They go slow & take their time

They love coffee & naptime

& are teaching all the time

World Adoption Day 11-15-16

15037183_10208170961253641_4422714300426896183_n

Happy #WorldAdoptionDay to anyone who has been blessed by this beautiful gift 😇 #WetHairDontCareClub

World Adoption Day 11-15-16
Adoption brought me family
Without it I’d be alone
Adoption brought me a sister
& together we have grown

It gave me someone to fight with
It gave me someone to love
It gave me someone to confide in
Though she doesn’t always keep her mouth shut

As a child I let her dress me
She’s always had great style
But many times she’d test me
& I’d stay mad a while

She taught me many things
Like how to tell designer from a fake
Yet in many ways we’re different
For example, she does not like cake

We got our puppies together
One Christmas in New York
Another way we’re different
Is I do not eat pork

Adoption made us siblings
Though we are not blood
But we learned to love each other
Until one day we became buds

We lost our home in Katrina
& that brought us close again
Our parents made us sisters
But our love made us friends

She loves to shop indoors
While I love to play outside
As children we fought over chores
As adults we travel worldwide

We’ve travelled the world together
From Costa Rica to Europe
Canada to the Caribbean
& she always did my makeup

The day that she got married
I stood right by her side
I helped her to get ready
She made a beautiful bride

Adoption is a blessing
It is a gift from God
A miracle from up above
& one we should applaud

for my DJ duos out there <3 y'all!!!!! :-*

So as I’m taking a shower tonight, this random (CHEESY) little paragraph rolls through my head & I decided to jot it down, which is basically how all of my writing comes to be. Anyways I wrote this thinking of a specific DJ duo I’m friends with, but I decided it actually works for another duo I know as well. I will not list the artists until they approve lol (PS sorry this is a little more trashy than my usual writing-READ WITH CAUTION)

Two minds came together with one dream.

Got love for that music & they wanna be seen.

Mix those beats ’til it ain’t just sound, got that rhythm make you move around.

They don’t need words for their voices to be heard.

They speak loud & clear way down deep into your ear.

They don’t use a mic, just some melodies & bass,

But the shit that they drop is like cummin’ on your face.

Make you really wanna feel alive, give you eargasms by the count of five.

I love this team you already know, & one day they gone be rollin’ in dough.

Make that bread ’til they don’t need no mo’, but right now they can’t even go to the sto’

I’m about done, it’s time for me to go, but if you like this shit then give my boys a follow.

hahaha ok I’m done now. Thought y’all might enjoy a little more lighthearted/amusing piece by me
